Blogging in plane view

I’m on a plane right now. I’m not posting this from the air, though. I’m simply typing within Pages, and am going to upload it to WordPress when I’m back at my apartment and have wifi access. Although for a moment I thought I was going to have Internet access. I just turned my computer on and it auto-connected to a computer network called “Free Public Wi-Fi.” How the hell would I find that on a plane? It must be based on the plane, but it doesn’t give me any data. But I’m certainly connected to a network. We’ll see.

My trip to Las Vegas is currently overshadowed by an annoying denouement

I turned 21 on June 5th, as many of you know, and this weekend just gone I took a trip to Las Vegas with 17 other awesome people. It was great fun, and I’ll post a selection of some of the best pictures later on.

Frustratingly, our return home was marred by a strong of events that vexed further and further. First, Nick’s sister lost his apartment key. I mean, sure, it’s just a fucking key, and it’s a very small thing to get het up over, but it was a prelude to a series of annoyances that outsized it.

 

• Promenade Towers’ maintenance is stupid. You remember the flood? Well, post-flood, they had to replace padding under the carpet that was soaked and ripped out. Here’s what was wrong:
  • The new padding is like half an inch thicker than the old, so there’s an uneven rim of higher carpet around the door and sink. It’s nice and soft, but stupid and annoying! 
  • There are chips in the bottom of the wall by our bar stools. This is unacceptable.
  • The kitchen sink and the area around it still smells utterly disgusting. It smells rancid, like death. Maybe not quite that bad, but it’s horrible. I don’t even want to get cereal in there, the smell is so off-putting, let alone cook. They need to replace the wood or do a fucking deep clean. Something.
• I have been doing laundry. This particular session has been characterized by hunting for a washing machine that’s not in use or out of order, and then discovering my card was out of money. Seriously, why can’t our laundry machines take fucking quarters? It would be much easier. Did I just answer my own question?
• I am tired. This gets me grouchier than normal and more apt to complain than normal. Also more likely to use “fucking” in blog entries.

 

I have had a good day/I hate stuff

Today was fantastic. I have been content the entire time. Driving along, with the windows down, with the stereo playing songs of summer, wearing shorts. It was so… pleasant. All the adjectives have to be italicized, you see, because they’re very calm adjectives, but they were experienced emphatically.

I also hate stuff. Stuff, rather, with a capital “S.” I tidied my room today. Well, under my side of the bed and my closet. There was so much Stuff that had built up and become cluttered, and there was more Stuff on top of that so I didn’t quite realize just how much Stuff I had. It’s horrible. Old paycheck stubs, receipts, class notes that I don’t need any more, mailers that looked interesting initially, old magazines, Bank of America info, so much crap! It was astounding. I much prefer all that shit to be digital. Digital statements, digital bills, digital tickets. It’s much easier. I’m sure that’s just part of my place as this generation, but I find it so much more convenient.
